Tovertafel

Description

The Robert Schuman Hospitals' Cognitive Behavioral Unit (CBU), a specialized service for elderly dementia patients in behavioral crisis and their families, has acquired the Tovertafel. This is an interactive technology based on scientific research, specially designed for elderly people suffering from dementia and other cognitive disorders. It takes the form of a ceiling-mounted projector that projects interactive games onto a large table, designed to stimulate the senses, memory and social engagement of the elderly.

Added value

The care of elderly demented patients, such as those suffering from Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia, is complex and requires a comprehensive, caring approach. In this context, non-drug therapies, which complement drug treatment, play an important role in the care of these patients, as they can reduce behavioral and emotional symptoms and help maintain their autonomy for as long as possible. According to observations by the Cognitive Behavioural Unit team, the use of this technology offers patients moments of pleasure, distraction and joy, helping to improve their emotional well-being. In addition, they can help reduce the disruptive behaviors often associated with boredom and agitation in people with dementia.

"We use the Tovertafel very regularly and choose the games we offer patients according to their tastes and needs. Thanks to the wide range of games, we can offer different types of activities that stimulate patients' cognitive functions, such as memory, attention and problem-solving."
